Synchronicity's Annual Leap Year Membership Party!

It's that time of year again!

Brace yourselves, because your friends at Synchronicity have started our annual membership drive.We usually do our memberships via Paypal, but this year you'll have the opportunity to come to our first Annual Leap Year Membership Party. This party will be hosted by our good friend Barkley in the neighborhood of Ogden & Elizabeth, just north of Lake Street, on Friday, February 29th. We'll start off at around 10:00. There will be an auction, great music, great people, and naturally a fair amount of booze. This is a perfect time to get to know who we are, what we're about, and just generally kick back, have a couple beers, and allow your judgment to become impaired before you sign up. MEMBERSHIP? WHY SHOULD I BOTHER?
For the eminently reasonable cost of $36.50, you get a highly valued one-year membership to our cult, as well as free admission to our yearly Synchronicity retreat - a large, artistic, fire-happy camping event held every summer. Beyond that, you become a part of one of the coolest groups of folks you could ever wish to be a part of - the same folks who have brought you the SantaKong for 5 years, the Annual Xmas Tree Burn for 7 years, and BunnyCon for . . . well for a number of years. Beyond that, Synchronicity members are involved in organizing and participating in many Burning Man-related (though not necessarily Burning Man-specific) events like the Chicago Decompression, Resonate, and the annual Chiditarod Drunken Shopping Cart Race. And these are just the "official" capital-E Events we're involved in. We also get together more informally all the time for good times and good beers.

IF YOU'RE SO COOL, WHY DO YOU NEED A MEMBERSHIP DRIVE?
Our organization produces events that cost money. It's that simple. As a member, you'll be entitled to periodic updates on exactly where your money is going, and for what, and you'll be a part of the production team that makes these events a reality.

BEYOND PAYING, WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME, IF I BECOME A MEMBER?
That's up to you. To make our events happen, Synchronicity needs motivated people who will not only show up and have a good time, (although that's always an option) but who will actually put some effort and energy into MAKING THE EVENTS HAPPEN. This means helping with planning, helping with logistics, helping with setting up and cleaning up, and in general, just helping! HOW IS SYNCHRONICITY ORGANIZED?
We are structured as an anarcho-democratic Do-ocracy. There is no President, and no Vice-President (thankfully) of Synchronicity. We have only a rotating Secretary/Treasurer position whose occupant changes depending on who is "stepping up" to organize what event. Our general mode of operation is that we try to achieve consensus on most things, and try not to get pissy on the few issues when we can't. As a citizen of a do-ocracy, if you're truly motivated to make something happen under the aegis of Synchronicity, you probably can.

IS THERE OTHER STUFF I OUGHT TO KNOW?
Yes. To stay abreast of what's going on with our organization, it's best that, beyond just becoming an official member, you also get on our official, "SynchroSuckers" planning list. This planning list is used to get our events together. Once you've signed up, we recommend that you chime in with a quick introductory hello.

I DON'T DO PAYPAL, CAN I STILL BECOME A MEMBER?
Yes, though for the purposes of working within this particular organization, we strongly recommend getting a Paypal account. It's easy, free, and all you need is a bank account. Come to our Annual Leap Year Membership Bash or email dave_h@illmeasures.com for details. Beyond that, you can also pay up at the annual BunnyCon Bar Hop, which takes place on Friday, March 21st. Details will be forthcoming for both of these events, but we ask that you get off the fence and choose to join us BEFORE the Annual Retreat, which is typically the event that costs the most. This year, the Retreat will likely be in mid-June.
