IT CAME FROM THE WEST.......
The Intelligent Designers and Entheon Village are back at it again, bringing you the freshest sounds from the West Coast. It is our pleasure to present to you, “It Came From the West”, a diabolical event that will showcase the cutting-edge experimental hip-hop and electronica that has put California on the forefront of the Lazer-Bass movement. Come out and support the performances of these amazing producers, MC’s and turntablists in the electronic-music hub of the Mid-West, and let’s show them how we do it in Chi Town.
- Nosaj Thing- Los Angeles (electronica/experimental/hip-hop)
L.A.-based producer Nosaj Thing (Jason Chung) is a sound innovator. He's a sweet kid with a sinister musical agenda. His electronic soundscapes and wild beat tectonics play like vignettes that affect the listener's mind as deeply as he hits their soul. Without a doubt, Nosaj Thing is among L.A.'s finest musical modulators. Nosaj has received Artist-to-Watch accolades from XLR8R, remixed Daedelus and Elliot Lipp, won Plastic Little/Turntable Lab's remix contest featuring MF Doom, and won L.A.'s prestigious Project Blowed beat battle. He has shared the stage with the likes of Sixtoo, Architecture in Helsinki, DJ Krush, Z-Trip, Free the Robots, Eliot Lipp, D-Styles, Edit, and Daedelus. He's a staple and a crowd pleaser at L.A.'s underground hip-hop good time, Low End Theory. Comparisons run along with Ratatat, DJ Shadow, and Boards of Canada. A survey of his own record collection will turn up pieces from Aphex Twin, Stereolab, Radiohead, Daft Punk and Eric Satie. In so little time, he's accomplished so much. With his first full-length in the works, be prepared to hear a lot more noise from Nosaj Thing.
"L.A.-based producer Nosaj Thing pits gritty electronics à la Justice against sultry hip-hop undertones–and the two worlds meet with a surprising smoothness. This is one producer worth keeping an eye on." -- XLR8R Magazine
"Over the past year, we've seen an amazing evolution from one of L.A.'s young great hopes. We are expecting nothing less than an all-around sensory beatdown from Nosaj Thing, a true embodiment of the next wave." -- Daddy Kev, Alpha Pup Records
- Epcot & Salva- San Francisco (experimental/electronica/hip-hop)
Epcot & Salva have been popularized by vocal/production collaborations with electro legends Tipper, Sibegg and The Glitch Mob, as well as hiphop mainstays P.O.S., Def Harmonic, Mac Lethal and Approach. Together in their main artistic endeavor, boundaries are blurred as live scratching, vocal processing, beats, synths and evil party raps are homogenized on stage. Salva’s remix portfolio includes up and coming pop acts Walter Meego and Leo Minor. This San Francisco-based duo has releases scattered amongst independent labels across the globe and in the near future with Tru Thoughts (UK) and Bay Area’s Daly City Records, appearing on Mochipet’s Microphonepet LP.
- Nalepa- Los Angeles (idm/ambient/dub)
LA-based electronic musician, multimedia artist and mad scientist collector Steve Nalepa combines deep dub bass, glitchy breaks, bioacoustic atmospheres and beautiful sinewave melodies to create his patented brand of ambient glitch dub. Known for his vast and eclectic array of artistic collaborators — cultivated and acquired through years of producing spectacular audiovisual events and sharing bills with some of the worlds best electronic musicians — Nalepa is considered a key node in the west coast audiovisual scene and holds the appropriate title of Flavorpill's "beat guru".
- The Abominable Twitch- Chicago (experimental/electronica/hip-hop)
Max Glascott (The Abominable Twitch) has been writing music in the all too vast umbrella genre of Electronic Music for roughly ten years. He began somewhere between the ages of 12 and 13, cutting up Chemical Brothers loops and classic breakbeats, warping them into deranged hip hop and some kind of colorful regurgitation of the seemingly late Digital Hardcore genre. By 1999 he joined forces with a small Digital Hardcore label, Irk Media, based in the western suburbs of Chicago. Twitch’s music varies drastically as it encapsulates everything from drunken experiemnts to entirely through-composed "masterworks." He currently resides on Chicago's west side with a bunch of crazy classical musicians, writing music all day and all night just because "it feels good."
