2008 Chicago Theme Camps

  • Burning Chicagoans
A wonderful group of Chicago burners who have had an active presence at Burning Man for many years.
Creators of the Whistleworks camp in burns past.
  • Entheon Village
Entheon, meaning "a place to discover the spirit within," is an effort to promote sustainable cultural re-evolution that heals relationships between the people of the earth and our planet. The mission of Entheon is to demonstrate a future in which sustainability, ecological responsibility, environmental stewardship, and meditative and mystical consciousness are a welcomed and integrated part of society, and where art, spirituality and creativity is central to that vision. Entheon is a grounded gathering place offering an intellectual, therapeutic, artistic and creative cornucopia of interactive opportunities. Lectures, workshops, renewable energy demonstrations, visionary art, zen meditation in a zendo, holotropic breathwork sessions, and performance come together in the spirit of celebration to co-create our shared vision of global healing and a broader awareness of ecological responsibility.
  • Temple of the United Spirit
The Temple of the United Spirit will serve as Sacred space on the playa, a Heart center of the creative city, wherein we realize our Manifest Divinity. We will teach and inspire to reach outward beyond the playa, as well as reaching within to inner manifested Divinity. The Temple will be a highly interactive Sacred space for sacred communion, art, music, workshops, ceremonies, performances, and celebrations, engaging all faiths and all forms of spiritual expression and connection.
  • The Viking Youth
The crazy crew behind the "The Viking Youth Power Hour" podcasts. Their motto: "Stop dreaming like a pussy." Creators of the infamous, veggie oil fueled, flame shooting Ragnarok Radio Free Valhalla Bus that led Chicago's 10th annual Halloween Parade in 2006.
  • Libido Lounge
Libido Lounge was conceived on the drive back from BRC in 2006 by Doug and Steve from a need for a more accessible and pansexual kinky and lifestyle camp without attitude or prejudice. It's inaugural year was in 2007 with 17 members from all over the US. The founders of Libido Lounge (Doug, Lulu, Steve and Krueger) worked effortlessly to start out with a bang by recruiting local Chicago artists to volunteer by doing erotic artwork on the camps privacy fence which surrounds the common area of the camp. Libido Lounge also was the camp that spearheaded the much talked about and visited red-light district area near 9:00 and Estuary in 2007 creating an adult lifestyle Mecca that's sure to continue for years to come. The camp is also host to the largest art car from the upper midwest ever to grace BRC, "The Cum Back Inn".
  • EE CAMP: Environmental Encroachment's (EE Marching Band)
EE CAMP, under giant cargo nets, will be the home base for Chicago's EE MARCHING BAND, with EE Alum-nodes and Friends.
EE MARCHING BAND will be performing with other performers, jugglers, stilters, hoopers, costumed freaks, dj's, dancers, collaborators, and processioners at many events such as: jams with other marching bands, on the route for critical tits, the Billion Bunny March, Center Camp, happen-chance ceremonies, as well as Playa Encroachments! EE has been part of a forming mutable Super-Band: THE TRANSFORMATIONAL MARCHING BAND, attracting displaced paraders.

  • SynchroniCity
Formed in 2001, Synchronicity is a radically inclusive, Chicago-based, member-supported artists' collective. Based on respect, participation and jack-assery, Synchronicity and its members are dedicated to fire, art, music, radical self-expression and community building.
  • Chiditarod
The Iditarod is the famous long-distance race in which yelping dogs tow a sled across Alaska. The annual Chiditarod - which takes place in March - is pretty much the same thing, except that instead of dogs, it's people, instead of sleds, it's shopping carts, and instead of Alaska it's Chicago. This race continues the epic tradition of urban Iditarods in San Francisco, New York, Ann Arbor, and Portland. MUSH!
  • Sew-Op
The Sew-Op is a collaborative opportunity: to learn, teach and create. Their 3-story space in Pilsen on Chicago's south side is an amazing workshop full of sewing machines, tables, sharp scissors, chalk, bales of fabric and reels of thread. It's an amazing place that brings together community, opportunity, creativity, education and functionality.
